FINAL FANTASY X-2
As with Dungeons And Dragons, Hironobu Sakaguchi's Final Fantasy game series has grown into a culture unto itself since its first pixilated incarnation in 1987. This is the first time one of the Final Fantasy games gets a sequel. With Yuna instrumental in defeating Sin with the Final Summoning, Spira is liberated. But things are not as peaceful as it seems. With Rikku and Paine, Yuna are up against other more vicious Sphere Hunters and fiends who play rough. Here the focus is on the female characters with a strong focus on music and fashionable style. Abilities and dress spheres range from gunner and warrior to songstress and thief - all coming in handy when the enemies descend. Flying over Spira in Celsius you encounter a range of areas propelling the story. Battles incorporate the garment grid and you gain powers and abilities during conflicts as well as the expected strength, magic, defence, agility, evasion, magic, accuracy and even luck factors. Active Time Battle mode can be selected during the turn based play. You can learn the Al Behd language while Shinra can teach you everything you need to know on the ship. Aeons and the Fayth are again instrumental. Elements & forces in enemies include Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning. Spells are used. Afflictions can take the shape of poison, darkness, silence, sleep, petrification, confusion, berserk, curse and itchy. You can use buy potions, phoenix down, antidote, holy water, white cape and the star pendant. Choices and options cross your path constantly. Blitzball makes a turn again. This spiritually structured society living by the teachings of Yevon have strong religious connotations and sure as hell teach kids more than Pokémon or Beyblade TV shows. With the elaborate story exposed along many hours of gameplay, the battle scenarios stay true to the turn-based engine. If you've never played any FF games, you're supplied with enough background to fall right in.
