MAFIA
Grand Theft Auto places the gamer in a modern city environment of crime, shoot-outs and car chases. This long anticipated twist on the genre is set in the 1930s - "It's just business". The game has striking cinematic moods, its link scenes and music enhancing the immersive atmosphere. You want out and go to the cops, making a deal with Detective Norman. You tell them everything - to get out of the racket you got muscled into it you trade information to nail mob boss Salieri. The story is told in chapters of past misdemeanors and crimes. The story mode is engrossing but you can also go on a Free Ride: Knocking over pedestrians, ride a taxi, eliminate gangsters (shooting out your window), speed, destroy cars etc. Characters have classic mob names like Tommy, Paulie, Sam and Frank. You can also acess a car racing segment. Eventually you'll have access to around 50 cars - select the colour and give it a rotate inspection > The Carcyclopedia contains a wide range: Bolt, Schubert, Falconer, Crusader, Guardian, Thor, Wright, Bruno, Lassiter, Trautenburg, Brubaker, Caesar, and even an Ambulance, Fire Truck and Hearse. The map of the area includes Little Italy, China Town, Central Island, New Ark, Downtown and Hoboken (the area Frank Sinatra grew up in). As the story unfurls you get to get into hand-to-hand fights, rattle off with the tommy gun, pistols, revolvers or shotgun as redemption looms.
