THE
SUFFERING Right now it's about time for a violent jail-set action game. You play Torque, a tough guy on death row accused of killing his wife. Torque has blackouts and can't remember exactly what happened. The prison is on Carnate Island, a place with a gruesome past. When creatures appear and start killing everything in sight, Torque is on the run, not just surviving, but also becoming part of excavating the dark secrets and history of the place. The past unfolds in flashes, visions and voices in your head. The creatures are all related to the way they were executed. You start out with a blade but as you progress through the eerie prison you pick up guns, flashlights and batteries, Xombium painkillers, dynamite etc. You have to use your head along the way with puzzles or cerebral situations thrown in your way. Besides the range of beasts, ghosts and demons of the past you have to whack (before they annihilate you), you also encounter other inmates, guards etc., adding to the storyline and choices throughout. The monsters are quick and hard to nail. Luckily you can go into Insanity Mode! You can view the security cameras and even pick up the phone, flush the toilet, run the taps or blow the fire extinguishers to bits. As you progress you get to access pages (of Clem and Consuela) a previous warden and his wife's notebooks and journals, the evil of the past unfolding. The settings range from Easy and Medium to Hard and Impossible. Easy will be a good start. The dark, creepy mood is enhanced by a fantastic soundtrack. With blood spraying all over and profanity, the game is restricted for adults 18 and over. Extra features include a Making-Of look behind the scenes at Surreal and a cool documentary on an actual haunted prison, Philadelphia's Easter State penitentiary. 5 / A - PB 1 2 3 4 5 6 A - B - C |
