GOTHIKA With Halle Berry, Robert Downey, Jr., Penelope
Cruz Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz After a road detour, a psychologist
at a female penitentiary smashes her car when a girl appears in the road. The
girl bursts into flames as she tries to help her. Three days later she wakes up
at the other side of the glass. Not remembering anything, it is made known that
she has murdered her husband three days prior and is under observation. The ghostly
girl returns and our rational woman tries to make sense of it all while trying
to hold onto her sanity - or what she believes it to be. There are deep dark secrets
that slowly get uncovered. Some good scares and nice camera work makes this a
slick shocker, which ultimately fails to linger. It almost has that Sixth
Sense thing
going for it in a way, but not quite, its predictability one of the key factors.
The film's title would've suited an entirely different picture better - one which
many viewers might be expecting, had they not seen the trailer. 3
