WHITE NOISE

With Michael Keaton, Debra Kara Unger

This is one of those movies where the trailer is in fact far better than the picture itself. Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) is the means by which the dead communicate with us through electronic equipment, be it radio or TV signals. Keaton plays a man who loses his wife. A guy who studies this phenomenon approaches him, believing his wife contacted him from the other side. At first pissed off and skeptical, he eventually becomes obsessed when he hears her. Besides good messages coming through, evil can also infiltrate via these channels. Eventually the crossed over wife gives her husband clues of deaths still in the making, and he can save these people. This is where it kind of starts losing its thread and gets silly, but at least the ending is in many ways not a cop-out. Not too bad, but not great either.
