THE
MOTHMAN PROPHECIES
With Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Will Patton, Debra Messing, Lucinda
Jenney, Alan Bates
Directed by Mark Pellington
This very intriguing and scary tale is meant to be based on true events.
How much of it is fictionalized I am certainly interested to know, because
if the bulk of these events actually happened, it's so much more creepy
than just a mere movie. A journalist experiences a mind-blowing, life-changing
(and -threatening) phenomenon after his wife dies. This film is much
better appreciated if going into it with as little knowledge as possible,
so it would be better to stop reading here if you really want to enjoy
it to its full extent. I will however try not to let too much of the
cat out the bag. It all starts when he finds himself miles off course
on the road, his car and phone inexplicably incapacitated. On knocking
at a door for help, the homeowner answers at gunpoint claiming he's
been coming to his door for several nights. Things get weird, freaky
and downright scary when this same man hears voices and phone calls
that starts predicting disasters. People also see tall figures at night.
The journalist gets sucked deeper into these strange occurrences and
becomes its focal point. A pleasant surprise.
