BLADE II - Motion Picture Soundtrack

Like so many hybrid soundtracks before, this one opted for the vast possibilities opened up by the crossover factor (See the Metal-Rap fusion of
Judgement Night or Metal-Electronic blending of Spawn). Here some prominent electronic dance groups & artists get meshed with Hip-Hoppers to varied effect. The album opens with the attitude filled Blade theme, created by Danny Saber & Marco Beltrami. The outstanding numbers come from Paul Oakenfold with Ice Cube (some heavy guitars injected for additional oomph) while Massive Attack and Mos Def contribute an attitude-laden track with a dark groove. Where the Fatboy Slim tune could've been good with another team-up, the annoying Eve contribution contains all that sucks in Hip-Hop today: "Where my bitches at? Wuh! Where my thugs at? Wuh!". Pathetic. But at least a redeeming factor lies in that of Cypress Hill with Roni Size. Size also morphs with Volume 10. Gorillaz & Redman, Dub Pistols with Busta Rhymes & Silkk The Shocker, The Crystal Method with Bubba Sparxxx. An interesting creation, to say the least, but hardly carries the impact of a Spawn soundtrack.
