FEAR
FACTOR - TV Soundtrack
No-no-no, before you get excited, this is not the new Fear
Factory album
- remember, their last release was called Concrete and seems to
be the last one ever. Some of us still don't have DSTV or M-Net for that
matter, thus TV shows like Fear
Factor are
merely glimpses at open time. I saw a USA best-of episode and it was quite
a load of fun (at the expense of the chickens who couldn't fulfill the
tasks, of course), and apparently the local version has been one of the
most hectic of the franchise. At least the soundtrack contains a lovely
chunk of more meaty, crunchy & power-laced tracks. 18 in all, to be precise.
While it is not as extreme as it advertises itself, but it's more so than
your Big Brother collection, that's for sure. The local acts include
the theme tune from Siamese,
(ex-Saron
Gassers)
Seether
and Tweak
with a grating little juvenile ditty. H-Blockx
& Turbo B's
fantastic rendition of Snap's
The Power is ass-kicking while the Trik
Turner
inclusion is in fact one of their milder numbers. The new Death
In Vegas
sound pulsates very adequately alongside these. A variety of new rock
acts are included - The
Electric Soft Parade,
Seven
Channels,
Headstrong,
The
Color Red and
the female vocal-driven Kemopetrol.
Busta
Rhymes'
machinegun mouth is a nice addition for rap fans while even Faithless
devotees are catered for. If you've heard the Matrix
soundtrack, you'll recognize the moody slice of brilliance form Rob
Dougan,
Clubbed To Death. More dance-, drum & bass oriented tracks close
the disc in the shape of Skinny,
Kosheen
and Sasha.
So, even if you haven't seen the show or even heard of it, chances are
that the more readily available soundtrack will more than likely appeal
to you.
