THE CONDEMNED

With Steve Austin, Vinnie Jones, Robert Mammone, Tory Mussett, Manu Bennett

Written & Directed by Scott Wiper

The WWE wrestler movie titles are slowly filtering through. Kane appeared in See No Evil and Rey Myterio Sr. made a turn in Wrestlemaniac. Here it is the turn of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. With a hint at tales like The Prize Of Peril and The Running Man, a media savvy producer creates a website streaming a live show from a undisclosed island location. The show throws together a bunch of death row prisoners bought from their various corrupt locations to participate for a grand prize, and last man (or woman) standing. Each are fitted with an explosive charge and need to kill each other to win their freedom (and cash) by any means necessary. Obviously Steve Austin is not as guilty as the others and he teams up with a few of the doomed “players” against a more ruthless and blood thirsty Vinnie Jones and his Eastern sidekick. Violent and action-packed, but, your guess on how everything turns out would be spot-on.
Sure, sometimes we feel shows like Survivor should erupt into something like this as ever more annoying contestants sit around the fire bitching about rice and coconuts, but, in a realistic world we all know better.
At worst something like this is one large-scale snuff movie, and hopefully entertainment will never reach such proportions, since we believe ourselves to have become a bit more civilized than the days of the gladiators in the amphitheatres of old.
