CRANK II - High Voltage

With Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Dwight Yoakam, Efren Ramirez, Art Hsu, Ling Bai, Clifton Collins Jr., David Carradine, Corey Haim, Geri Halliwell

Written & Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor

The original high-octane Crank had Chev Chelios poisoned, having to keep his heart rate blasting in order to avoid the toxin killing him. It ended with him splatting into the tarmac from a helicopter. And as the tag line says: “He died... but he got better”. Better indeed! From here the second installment has Chev's body scraped from the road and rushed into a back room surgery where they remove his heart (for their aging Chinese crime boss), replacing it with a mechanical one. He busts out (with the heart's battery running low), on a rampage through the city to find his ticker and sort out the bastards behind its theft, constantly needing to get juiced with electricity. Fast, violent, furious and hilarious, the movie also features Corey Haim in a white trash supporting role (sadly shortly after seeing this, news came through of his untimely death).
A great addition to this is the crazy, energetically charged soundtrack by the audio madman Mike Patton (of Faith No More, Fantômas and Tomahawk fame) - throughout the movie I noticed something about the manic soundtrack that seems awfully familiar - in the credits it all made sense.
