Haunted House 2

A HAUNTED HOUSE 2

With Marlon Wayans, Jaime Pressly, Essence Atkins, Gabriel Iglesias, Cedric the Entertainer

Written by Marlon Wayans, Rick Alvarez
Directed by Michael Tiddes

As if the Scary Movie franchise was not enough in taking a parody stab at recent Horror movies, Marlon Wayans has followed up his first attempt at it with a sequel.
Silly?  Definitely.
Necessary?  Not really.

After escaping his possessed girlfriend, a year later he moves in with his new (white) girlfriend – expect tireless interracial jokes and black / white stereotypes taken to laborious lengths (plus poliically incorrect Hispanic bits thrown in with his neighbour) – some funny, some worn out, others highly unnecessary. But a Wayans-linked movie without race jokes is like Friday The 13th without Jason.

With a Paranormal Activity security camera and handicam documentation as its shooting style, the movies they dig into with dumb, silly and stupid parodies include Sinister, The Possession and the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring.
Besides the sub-par humour, where I took serious offence was the gratuitous animal battering, playing for laughs.
With the Wayans’ no longer involved in the Scary Movie series, a direct gag mentioning how those movies are no longer funny with their absence is an oxymoron, as these new Haunted House takes on the theme is in no way better or funnier.  Marlon, pulling your face, running around and screaming like a girl is not always hilarious… unless you're in school play.

If watching a good movie is your priority, avoid.  But when you’re bored and stupid humour is what you crave, and you've seen the movies being ripped off, then this may hit the spot.
