THE RETURN

With Sarah Michelle Gellar, Peter O’Brien, Sam Shepard
Directed by Asif Kapadia

Sarah Michelle Gellar is no stranger to the horror genre, making her name with the popular camp TV series
Buffy The Vampire Slayer and going on to flicks like I Know What You Did Last Summer and the American Grudge remake(s).
Here she treads familiar ground as a grown woman who simply never seemed to recover properly after a car accident with her father as a child. With constant flashes of faces and places she’s never seen or been to, blackouts and an urge to self-mutilate, she also has recurring nightmares of a man stalking her. Eventually she is drawn to a small town in Texas where her destiny unfolds in the shadow of a dark event. With an engaging pace and very cool punchline, director Kapadia leads the viewer through a very moving psychological thriller often veering towards a ghost story.
