SPIDER-MAN 3

With Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bruce Campbell, J.K. Simmons, James Cromwell, Theresa Russell, Bill Nunn

Directed by Sam Raimi

The third chapter in Raimi’s
Spider-Man trilogy may be the biggest and most expensive, but is by no means the best. Sure, some eye-popping stunts and FX dazzle the screen, but there are just too many crappy moments.
Still no female villain like
Batman’s second outing, but several get thrown in, including Spider-Man himself! Too many, in fact. There is Peter’s pal Harry who inherits his psycho dad’s fortune and Goblin persona, the Sandman rises to eventually team with Venom, and Spidey gets a darker (but highly unsuccessful) alter-ego make-over due to goo covering him (which crawled from a meteorite). Fighting the bad guys and himself, Peter still tries to keep the girl, and his job at the newspaper. Loads of digital animation and live stunts make for a wild ride, but will mainly amuse the kids and the loyal comic book geeks. Luckily Bruce Campbell makes his cameo, this time as a French waiter.
DVD extras include several featurettes, interviews, FX looks and commentary tracks.

PS. For my money Raimi's
Evil Dead
is a far more rewarding trilogy.
