X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

With Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Lynn Collins, Kevin Durand, Dominic Monaghan, Will i Am

Written by David Benioff & Skip Woods
Directed by Gavin Hood

Rising from small part actor in foreign movies shooting in South Africa, to directing the Best Foreign Oscar winner Tsotsi, Gavin Hood's Hollywood breakthrough came with Rendition, starring some serious Hollywood names and respected Oscar winner's like Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon. He followed that with his first big budget action movie in the shape of the first X-Men Origins movie Wolverine, the popular Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the character. Where certain hints were dropped in the second X-Men movie on how Logan became Wolverine (his mutation fused with an indestructible steel skeleton, making him a super-healing hero), here the full background and history is filleted and exposed with high-impact action and special-FX.
Having been part of a special covert unit, he gives it up when unnecessary violence and death results. But there are forces out to get him, as the members of his team get killed one-by-one, his number coming up soon. With other X-Men characters like Sabretooth a big part of the narrative, the race for the truth, survival and justice is a hard and violent one.
While designed for younger viewers and comic book / superhero fans, this makes for an enjoyable but somehow secondary chapter to the original trilogy.

Special features include a look at the making of the movie, deleted and alternate scenes.
