THE ZODIAC

With Justin Chambers, Robin Tunney, Rory Culkin, Marty Lindsey, Rex Linn, Brad William Henke, Shelby Alexis Irey

Written by Kelley Bulkeley & Alexander Bulkley
Directed by Alexander Bulkley

There is no comparison between the impacting David Fincher version and this lower budget telling of the notorious San Francisco serial killer (calling himself The Zodiac) who terrorized the area for many years, without getting caught. He sent letters to police and the press giving intimate details related to the crime scenes where he shot or stabbed his victims (usually parked in cars, in isolated areas, a taxi driver etc.). It drove the police force crazy and had the city in a panic from decade into another.
Story-wise this version naturally takes the angle from the investigating cop's perspective, incorporating his kid and family (as opposed to the journalist focus in the Fincher version). Overall it is a well made movie, but in the shadow of the far more detailed big budget take on the case, unfortunately dwarfs into the shadows.
