A group of friends chase a monster myth, but one of them has recurring dreams that may be prophetic. In the woods something dark awaits them.

But somewhere prowling in the darkest corner of a desolate, abandoned building on the edge of a wilderness is a dangerous animal. It's a human animal that lives by the rules of the wild, where survival is the only concern.
This creature of the night uses cunning and instinct to hunt and kill for pleasure. He has no qualms about his actions; he lives by his desires and he'll take what he wants...

To close the Frankenstein themed 2012 South African HORRORFEST, what better way to do it than with this fabulously crazy, transsexual musical take on the theme, which has been thrilling audiences for almost 40 years!

This licensed screening of this cult classic is set to be a full audience participation show, so bring your rice, newspaper, toast, wild imagination, energy, and crazy outfits for one hell of good time.

Besides dressing up as any of the characters (or whatever outrageous get-up you can think of), don't forget to the various accessories.
The movie will have screen subtitle prompters when to do what during the show, but here are some tips on what to bring:

Rice: Dry rice is thrown during the opening wedding scene. As the newlyweds exit the church, you should throw the rice along with the guests.

Newspapers: Like Janet, hold newspapers over your head during the rain scene.
Water Pistols: When Janet and Brad arrive to the castle, it's pouring. Squirt water to simulate the rain.
Lighters / Flashlights / Cell Phones: During the "there's a light" verse of "Over at the Frankenstein Place," you should light up the theater.
Rubber Gloves: During and after the creation speech, Frank snaps his rubber gloves three times. You should snap your gloves in sync each time to create a fantastic sound effect.
Noisemakers: At the end of the creation speech, the Transylvanians respond with applause and party noisemakers. You should do the same.
Toilet Paper: When Dr. Scott enters the lab, Brad cries out, "Great Scott!" At this point, you should hurl rolls of toilet paper into the air (Scotts is a brand of American toilet paper).
Toast: When Frank proposes a toast at dinner, members of the audience throw toast into the air (preferably unbuttered ... things could get sticky).
Party Hat: At the dinner table, when Frank puts on a party hat, you should do the same.
Playing Cards: During the song "I'm Going Home," Frank sings, "Cards for sorrow, cards for pain." At this point you should shower the theater with cards.

Back lines shouted during the film are often changed to roll with the modern times. Unless you're a regular participant, there's no way to learn all of these beforehand, but this website can give you an idea of how often they're used. The two lines that seem to have been kept universal for the last 30 years are calling Brad an "asshole" and Janet a "slut."

And when it's time for the Time Warp, be prepared to stand up. For those of you that don't know the Time Warp dance, check it out here:
www.youtube.com/ watch?v=opOsgzzDPdw
Don't worry, even someone with no rhythm can get this down.

Directed by Jim Sharman
Starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Richard O'Brien, Barry Bostwick, Meatloaf

Makabra Ensemble
At this year's Celludroid Sci-Fi / Anime / Fantasy Film Festival (June /July 2012), The Makabra Ensemble performed
an original soundtrack to the screening of the legendary Metropolis - their 7th movie to date(!)
Past soundtrack performances at the HorrorFest have included Nosferatu, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari, Haxan,
The Phantom Of The Opera, Maciste In Hell and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
This year is the 90th anniversary of F.W. Murnau's legendary groundbreaking vampire classic, NOSFERATU!
To celebrate this on Halloween night (Wed 31 Oct, 8pm), The Makabra Ensemble will revisit their popular performance
of this live soundtrack (which also shook up convention at the huge Oppi Koppi rock festival).
DVDs of the movie with its new soundtrack will be on sale.
The Makabra Ensemble consists of members from Terminatryx & V.O.D (Sonja Ruppersberg & Paul Blom),
Lark & Mr. Sakitumi (Simon "Fuzzy" Ratcliffe & Sean Ou Tim), and Dawn Treader (Matthijs Van Dijk).

HALLOWEEN DRESS-UP

What is Halloween without a dress-up get-together?
Each year the Halloween dress-up competition happens at the Makabra Ensemble live soundtrack performance
(on Halloween night, Wednesday 31 October).
Great prizes to be won.

DARK ART & PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

For many years the HorrorFest organisers wanted to incorporate a dark art and -photography chapter
to the event's ever expanding scope (doing it on a small scale in 2006). We met up with experienced curator
Andrew Lamprecht and all looked very promising. But unfortunately the exhibition venue's availability fell through.
So, be prepared for its full initiation in 2013.
Stay tuned for updates on submission details and more.

SHADOW REALM SHORT FILM DVD COLLECTION

Another plan many years in the works is the DVD series featuring the best and most memorable short films
screened at the Shadow Realm short film chapters across the festival history (since 2005).
The mammoth task of selecting from the vast library of great short films is currently underway, and ENT Entertainment
is set to release it in conjunction with Flamedrop Productions and ShadowRealm, inc.
If the process is not stalled by the rating process from the Film & Publications Board, the HorrorFest event
will act as launch-pad for this first DVD in the series.

ZOMBIE WALK

The HorrorFest is set to link up with the Cape Town Zombie Walk again (this time on the Sea Point promenade, Sat 27 Oct, 4pm).
