And
alas
the
coffin
lid
is
nailed
shut
on
another
Horror
Festacular.
This
year
we
took
great
effort
in
expanding
the
scope
of
the
genre
representation
at
the
2006
Horror
Fest.
We
gave
you
a
free
Festival
launch
screening,
a
PlayStation
Pod
parked
outside
the
Labia
Theatre
loaded
with
4
horror
games,
brought
in
comics
from
GothamCentral.co.za,
bloodied
up
the
foyer
with
a
selection
of
vampire
pics
by
local
photographers,
featured
the
new
quarterly
magazine
Something
Wicked,
hosted
the
Halloween
dress-up,
and
had
a
bunch
of
give-aways
like
DVDs
(from
Sting
Home
Ent.),
Piranha
Energy
Drinks,
Vampire
teeth
(Party
Tricks),
Something
Wicked
Magazines,
Rue
Morgue
Magazines
&
stickers,
and
PS2
games.
The
silent
movie
live
soundtrack
performance
pulled
in
members
from
several
musical
projects
(Terminatryx,
Lark,
Kobus!,
V.O.D,
Dawntredder)
to
give
new
life
to
the
1922
classic
Nosferatu.
Our
short
film
segment
was
expanded
substantially.
Not
only
did
Magus
Visual
sponsor
a
R12000
prize
for
the
best
movie
selected,
but
four
foreign
shorts
were
also
included.
The
South
African
movies
included:
Josie
Minty’s
Scarecrow
Bones
(winner)
Craig
Parker’s
Locker
Room
Vampires
Quinton
Lavery’s
Only
In
Death
Braam
Du
Toit’s
Vloedlyn
Desmond
Etsebeth’s
A
Hitchhiker’s
Tale
Dirk
Fourie’s
Teaching
Stanley
The
Terminatryx
music
video
Midnight
was
also
added
as
a
bonus,
not
for
competition
The
foreign
inclusions:
(UK)
Dominic
Hailstone’s
The
Eel
(winner)
(Brazil)
Carlos
Gananian’s
Akai
(USA)
Armando
Muñoz
Pervula
(Canada)
Eric
Falardeau’s
Purgatory
The
highlights
of
the
Horror
Fest
were
indeed
the
opening
and
closing
night
showcases
respectively,
both
only
a
few
seats
shy
of
a
full
house
for
Shadow
Realm
Vol.II:
Twisted
Nerve
(short
film
collection)
and
Nosferatu
(live
soundtrack
performance).
Below
are
images
of
the
short
film
winner's
butcher
knife
trophy:
A
great
disappointment
however
was
the
Pang
Bros.’
The
Eye,
with
only
a
handful
viewers
–
you
guys
obviously
have
no
idea
what
you
missed
out
on…The
few
attending
were
mesmerized
and/or
blown
away.
The
screening
of
Deep
Red
had
some
technical
hitches,
but
viewing
continued
after
it
was
sorted.

While
we
tried
to
do
it
for
2006,
hopefully
we’ll
be
expanding
the
Horror
Fest
up
north
to
Gauteng
in
2007.
Meanwhile
get
your
Halloween
outfits
plotted,
your
horror
short
movies
planned,
written,
shot
and
edited,
and
diarize
late
October
/
early
November
for
your
annual
dose
of
Horror
Fest
–
like
Christmas,
it
only
comes
once
a
year.
You
miss
it,
you
miss
out.
