With all the characters set up and the success of the first Hotel Transylvania making a sequel unavoidable, what would the next natural step be for a continuation?

Drac's over protective fathering had his cape in a bunch when daughter Mavis brought a human (Johnny) home in the first movie. So, the next chapter very much goes the inevitable route most sitcoms lead - Mavis and Johnny get married, and have a baby… Which has Drac's affection and over protective nature translated to his grandson.

However, the madness and monsters of the hotel has Mavis worried, seeing as her kid may be strictly human with no vampire traits. Drac begs to differ, gunning for the boy to grow fangs and carry on the tradition.
So, while off to Johnny's hometown in California to scope out moving there, back in Transylvania Drac has to look after the child, and together with his gang of misfits, they try to teach the boy the art of being a monster (naturally, with crazy results).

The hotel and its diverse quirky guests are secondary to this development (making the title irrelevant), but you get glimpses and features here and there - for the most part it takes a back seat to the family issues playing out.

Fun but with a terrible pop soundtrack (just like the first movie), I was quite surprised how long this sat at the number one spot at the South African box office - Cool to see kids don't have an aversion to Horror related themes, even though it is a totally sugar coated one (Hopefully they'll move on to A Nightmare Before Christmas and soon after, A Nightmare On Elm Street!).
