Yes,
brothers & sisters, all things come to an end - but some resurrect on a regular
basis. As in the case of our Horror Fest! The first South African Horror Festacular
may be over, but not with a wooden stake through its heart! We'll be back in 2006
with a bigger and better second chapter for Cape Town, and still get the first
Johannesburg leg on the road. First-time hiccups were not overwhelming enough
to prevent us returning from the grave for more.
The selection of movies
drew an interesting, eclectic crowd with the Phantom
Of The Opera, Dawn
Of The Dead, Night
Of The Living Dead and Cradle
Of Fear showing the most interest, but
overall the festival far surpassed our expectations.
The Phantom
Of The Opera with its live string quintet
was incredible and sounded great, adding a whole new dimension to this classic
1925 flick. Those poor mortals who chose not to attend missed out on an amazing
experience. The dress-up night had several freaks turn up with some innovative
outfits. We'd have loved to fill the entire theatre with monsters, but maybe 2006
will reanimate more beasts from their tombs.
Some festival-goers were
pleasantly surprised to find the selection of horror & weird DVDs on sale at the
Fright
Store, as well as
the movie related books and Shadow Realm T-Shirts.
There is now
plenty of time to get your South African made horror / thriller / chiller / sci-fi
/ freaky / bizarre short flick to us for the 2006 festival. We want to expand
this chapter of the festival by including short movies from around the world.
So, don't hesitate to shoot that masterpiece and get it to us:

Special
thanx go out to all the horror fans who attended the screenings and everyone who
made the festival possible. See you at the next one!
