HARRY POTTER and The Half-Blood Prince

For fans of this franchise it is another blissful barrage of mystery and magic as Lord Voldemort lurks in the clouds, sending his minions forth to destroy all that is good in Hogwarts School of Magic, threatening wizards and Muggles alike. For someone not too hot on Potter-mania, this will result in a groan of “get on with it already!” when the credits role after a near two and a half hour marathon, another dual installment of The Deathly Hallows still to come before the saga is laid to rest (until the TV series, of course...) - but why would someone who is not much of a fan sit through the half dozen movies? Perhaps for the guaranteed special FX spectacle... In that department you will not be disappointed.
The young actors grew up in front of the audience with these movies and this time round adolescence takes a front row seat with various romantic threads taking flight, but it plays second fiddle to the ominous narrative of a conspiracy within Hogwarts, death being its prime motive, not fun magic pranks.
Potter to the rescue! Or does he have what it takes, the dark forces too overwhelming?
Horace Slughorn, an old colleague of Dumbledore
holds a crucial memory (related to Voldemort), in need of extraction, while Potter finds a magic text book belonging to the Prince of the title, containing many useful notes... but who is this Prince?
I must admit, I am surprised that these screenplays are adapted by single writers as opposed to a half dozen names a movie of this size may usually sport.

The double disc DVD edition contains a range of interesting extras.
These include the usual behind-the-scenes looks, with the young actors taking part, from looking at the editing and some practical special effects, to costumes, set-design, stunts & more. There are additional scenes, Q&A's with cast & crew, as well as additional scenes.
The most fascinating feature is a 50-minute documentary on writer J.K. Rowling as she's followed for a year, leading up to the finishing of the last Potter book and its record breaking global release. It also takes a very personal look at her past and upringing, meetings with executives of the newly created theme park, premiers etc.
